Another First for Massachusetts! Marian McGovern Named Colonel of the Massachusetts State Police

Marian McGovern has been selected by Governor Deval as the Colonel of the Massachusetts State Police. She will be the first female to hold this top position for the department. When McGovern joined the department in 1979 there were only three female troopers.  On December 16, 2009 she will take over as the commander of the force of nearly 2,300.

"I think I have a responsibility to the women who have worked hard and the women who have followed their commitment and chosen a career in law enforcement."
