IAWP Magazine - Any News for Print?

The next issue of the IAWP magazine - Women Police - is due out soon.  The deadline for any submissions is due by the end of this month.  If you have any news you believe is worthy of print for this upcoming issue, please forward it to me ASAP.  I have to submit Region I news to Simon no later than January 31st, so I would need to hear from you before that date.

News can be from the past few months or for upcoming events over the next few months.  It could include - promotions, outstanding police work, upcoming conferences or trainings, events in your area, etc.

If you look at past issues you can get an idea of news that has been reported before by the different regions.  Please send any news to iawpregion1@gmail.com or to murphy521@comcast.net

Nominations for IAWP Annual Awards - Deadline is April 26, 2010

This post is a repeat of a previous post, but one I thought we should all think about now that we are in the new year 2010.  Annual awards are given out at the Annual IAWP Conference in several categories.  I am sure you know of someone who would deserves recognition for their work and role as a law enforcement officers.  Please take this time to read the post and the criteria for the annual awards.  They are due April 26, 2010 so you have plenty of time to work on your nominations.

The 48th Annual Conference is being held September 26 - 30, 2010. At the Annual Awards Banquet several awards are given to women officers to recognize their overall service and accomplishments throughout their careers, who have distinguished themselves in areas of leadership, community service, mentoring and excellence.

Awards are given in the following categories:
  • Officer of the Year Award
  • Excellence in Performance Award
  • Mary Jo Blahowski Leadership Award
  • Mentoring Award
  • Medal of Valor Award
  • Community Service
  • Civilain Achievment Award
  • International Recognitiion and Scholarship Award
  • IAWP Affiliate Recognition Award
Criteria for the awards and the application are available on the IAWP website, as well as the link above. The deadline for submissions is April 26, 2010 .

Please consider nominating a woman you know for these awards. The nomination process involves (1) written description of the nominee's observed behavior as compared to the criteria for the category, (2) supporting documentation, (3) and a short biography of the nominee. I urge you to start now in thinking of potential nominees and to organize your time so that all submissions are done by the deadline. Working with another member might help to make the nomination process easier.
