Woburn Police Mourns One of Their Own

Officer Maguire

Officer John Maguire of the Woburn Police Department lost his life on Sunday, December 26, 2010 after responding to a robbery at Kohl's department store just before 9pm.  Officer Maguire pursued two of the suspects when gunfire was exchanged killing one of the suspects and Officer Maguire.

The suspect, Dominic Cinelli, was on parole for armed robbery and had a history of violence.  Cinelli’s parole records show he was a career criminal who at one point was serving three concurrent life sentences for several armed robberies, armed assault with intent to commit murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm parole.

Gov. Deval Patrick has ordered a review of the decision by the Massachusetts Parole Board to release a career criminal now accused of killing a Woburn police officer.  "We're not seeing a clear understanding, apparently, on the board of the very violent past he came from," Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association Chief Mark Leahy said.
